Low Power Industrial IoT Gateway

The TS-7553-V2  is an extremely low power, high-performance single board computer powered by NXP i.MX 6UltraLite with an Arm® Cortex®-A7 core operating up to 696 MHz. This versatile embedded single board computer hits on all the main points for a low power, cost effective, Internet-of-Things (IoT) capable, and ready-to-deploy OEM board with an emphasis on data integrity.

The TS-7553-V2 offers the ability to communicate seamlessly with several different networks simultaneously from a single device. Using the onboard peripherals the system can connect to Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE5.0 compatible), USB, RS-232, RS-485, and CAN networks or devices. Built in module interfaces like the XBee/NimbeLink socket and internal USB ports allow expansion to other networks like Cellular, DigiMesh, ZigBee, Lora, and other proprietary or industry specific networks. This ability to communicate over a wide variety of wired and wireless interfaces puts the TS-7553-V2 in an excellent position to be an IoT node or gateway.

A Nine-Axis Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Unit containing a gyroscope, accelerometer and compass is an on-board option for asset management, fleet management, and other applications which would require sensing motion or vibration in the environment.

The TS-7553-V2 is also well suited for applications which require a simple HMI interface. With an off the shelf, low cost enclosure that can include a backlit monochrome 128x64 px LCD and four button keypad it is easy to create interactive menus for the user. An optional DIN mount makes it easy to mount to DIN rails for an fast off-the-shelf solution.

Applications with strict low power requirements will appreciate the work that's been done to reduce power consumption to less than 2 W in typical conditions and a 9 mW sleep mode. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is supported via a daughter card.

Robust and Rugged Engineering

Each component on the TS-7553-V2 has been carefully chosen to ensure not only reliable operation in the field, but also to get maximum product lifespan for 10+ years. The fanless design of the TS-7553-V2 paired with the low cost enclosure is able to withstand high vibration, high debris, and a wide temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C.

Reliable Data Storage with TS-SILO and FRAM

The TS-SILO power reserve ensures that there will never be data loss or corruption when there is unexpected interruptions in power. TS-SILO provides another 30 seconds of operation to allow graceful system shutdown, protecting data stored on the on board eMMC or microSD card. The onboard MLC eMMC flash is configurable as pseudo SLC (pSLC) memory for further reliability. Additionally, the TS-7553-V2 integrates Ferroelectric RAM (FRAM or FeRAM ) which combines non-volatile data storage with incredibly high read/write endurance for the ultimate in reliability for heavy data logging applications.

Short Time to Market with Long Term Deployment

Everything is preloaded to get your application up and running quickly. Debian Linux OS, utilities, and tools are preloaded to help you get the most out of the hardware features. The guaranteed 10+ year lifecycle ensures a long-term deployment in the field, free from expensive redesigns that commonly accompany "low-cost" competitor products with no guaranteed long-term availability.

The Next Generation of an Old Favorite

The TS-7553-V2 is everything you loved about the TS-7553 and much more, kept at the original price point. The increased CPU performance, higher capacity memory, reliable eMMC flash, and inclusion of new features like Wi-Fi/Bluetooth LE, cell modem and TS-SILO, make the TS-7553-V2 a very attractive and complete solution for applications requiring low power computing. With a nearly identical physical footprint and high application code portability from the TS-7553, it's an easy replacement, so upgrading in the field is as seamless as possible.

Software

By default, command line Debian is loaded which provides a massive repository of prebuilt applications and services and Debian provides a long history of focus on stability and support.

Software features include:

  • U-Boot bootloader
  • Linux Kernel
  • Debian Jessie distribution support
  • Many programming languages supported (C, C++, Python, node.js, etc.)
  • Source code examples available
  • Buildroot

Buildroot is a simple, efficient and easy-to-use tool to generate embedded Linux systems through cross-compilation. To assist customers heading down this path we have forked a stable snapshot of Buildroot and have added on top of it everything that is required for operation with one of our products. For more information, see the Buildroot Configuration section in the manual.
